Lord Howe Birds

Australia's premier seabird island

Many thousands of seabirds nest here each year, plus there is a rare collection of endemic land birds. Kermandec Petrals only breed on the thin rock pinnacle of Balls Pyramid. Muttonbird Island supports one of the world’s largest colonies of Masked Boobies.

Lord Howe's isolation has created 14 endemic marine and land species. Rare land endemics – Lord Howe Silvereye, Pied Currawong and Golden Whistler, plus the highly endangered Woodhen – are now spotted across the Island.
